New Survey From TRUE(R) Finds That Singles Still Believe in Old-Fashioned Romance, but Know That Men Don't Have to be the Breadwinners
DALLAS, /PRNewswire/ -- Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but American singles still choose love over money, a new survey says. A nationwide survey conducted by TRUE, the leading scientifically based online relationship service, reports that when it comes to relationships, nearly 4,000 single Americans agree that money can't buy love.
According to the survey, today's single Americans place a higher value on love than money. The number one priority in life, respondents said, was finding and sustaining a relationship (52 percent). Gaining financial stability came in second (37 percent) and achieving career success came in a distant third (11 percent).
Financial issues have always been blamed for the failure of many relationships, and with all the headache and heartache money seems to cause in love, you'd think singles would look at financial stability and earning potential early on in the search for the perfect mate. But while 45 percent of respondents admitted that money problems were a significant, even major source of conflict in previous relationships, they still rely much more on compatibility when deciding whom to date.
"Anyone who has ever been in a serious relationship is aware that money matters can play different roles and can affect couples more than just about anything else," said Herb Vest, founder and CEO of TRUE. "The key to sustaining a relationship and working through differences, however, is compatibility. Money is great in business, but when it comes to two people, it just can't buy you love. People need more -- and TRUE can help singles find just that."
The survey also reveals that men today are confident, and they feel comfortable being in a relationship with a more financially successful woman. A vast majority (over 93 percent) of men indicated they would be fine with a partner who makes more money than they do. However, over 70 percent of men still insist on the age-old custom of picking up the tab on the first date.
Likewise, women seem to be equally comfortable with success and the more modern views of a couple's financial identity, with over 64 percent agreeing that men don't always have to earn the higher salary in a relationship.
When asked about dating and courtship, singles showed a preference for the simple pleasures in life: favoring first date options like a picnic in the park (48 percent) or dinner and a movie (32 percent), versus a meal at a fancy, high profile restaurant or front row seats at a big game (20 percent).
There's also the question of which is better when it comes to feeling powerful in a relationship: looks, or money? More than half of the respondents (55 percent) said being better looking makes them feel more powerful, while 45 percent say it's having more money that does the trick.
TRUE continues to look for exciting ways to match up singles with compatible mates. Furthering its promise of helping singles find long-lasting and fulfilling relationships, TRUE recently expanded on its advanced, scientific TRUE Compatibility Test(TM) (TCT), by adding SEXPLORATION(TM).
